Remembrance Day at 10 Downing Street

November 11th 2021 marked the 103 year anniversary of the Armistice Agreement bringing an end to World War One. To commemorate the day, Downing Street invited students on the Naz Legacy Diversity Programme to attend a small and intimate conversation with war heroes from the Commonwealth.

Pupils from Oaks Park High School, were joined by 100 year old Major Rajinder Dhatt, who shared his journey as a soldier in the British Army fighting in Burma against the Japanese-Italian Axis, and then settling into life in England after the war.

This was followed by Commanders in the Australian Army, including Commander Jim Xinos, who shared an emotional report of the Gallipoli Campaign, before moving onto their own stories from their time fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. Students were given an opportunity to ask questions on leadership, motivation and challenges as well as network with the Commanders

We would like to thank Downing Street for the invite, and our speakers for sharing their inspirational stories which made the day a truly memorable one.
