New Mosaic Patrons announced at Downing Street Reception
Mosaic’s Chairman, HRH Princess Badiya bint El Hassan, announced Mosaic’s new Mosaic Patrons scheme during a reception with Samantha Cameron, wife of the Prime Minister.
Mrs Cameron welcomed around one hundred of Mosaic’s mentors and supporters to the famous 10 Downing Street residence of the Prime Minister and his family. The guests included Mosaic mentors, supporters, Head Teachers as well as political and community leaders. Mrs Cameron spoke about the need to reach out to young people in disadvantaged communities and the importance of providing those young people with positive role models. She spoke about the power of volunteers – such as those working through Mosaic’s national mentoring programmes – and how they have the wonderful ability to lift the aspirations of young people.
Guests also heard the powerful personal account of the impact of Mosaic’s secondary school mentoring programme from student Akram Alsafi. Akram, a Year 11 student at Westminster City School who was supported by the team of Mosaic mentors over the last academic year, paid tribute to his mentors and how they had boosted his confidence and helped him to decide upon his long-term career options.
HRH Princess Badiya announced Mosaic’s important new Patrons scheme, which invites senior individuals and corporates to provide long-term support for Mosaic’s mentoring programmes. Joining Mosaic’s existing donors, Princess Badiya paid tribute to the generosity and support of three new Patrons:
– Shabir Nawab, Principal of Shabir Nawab & Co accountants in Birmingham.
– Farouq and Haroon Sheikh, founders of Caretech Plc
– Tariq Usmani, Director of Henley Homes Plc
Mrs Cameron offered to host the reception to recognise Mosaic’s work after having met the Winners of the Apax-Mosaic Enterprise Challenge 2011 at Downing Street in March 2011. Read more about the Apax-Mosaic Enterprise Challlenge 2011 Reception.
